MAIN CHARACTER EGO DEFENSE MECHANISMS IN NOVEL MARYAM BY OKKY MADASARI: STUDY OF LITERARY PSYCHOLOGY

Abstract

This study was inspired by the novel Maryam which is one of the interesting novels to study in literary studies. Self-defense is a form of protecting oneself from external threats. The purpose of the research is the formulation of a sentence that indicates the existence of a result or how something will be obtained after the research is completed. The research objectives will be able to be achieved in a study and will be previously written in a research proposal and research report. The type of research used is qualitative research. The data in this study are texts about ego defense in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari. The source of the data in this study is the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari which was published for the first time by Gramedia Pustaka Utama Publisher, a member of IKAPI Jakarta 2012 and the fifth printing in May 2021. The data was collected using a triangulation (combined) technique. Triangulation is defined as a data collection technique that combines various data collection techniques and existing data sources. Based on the research results, the ego defense contained in the novel Maryam by Okky Madasari includes the relationship between the human ego, the social environment and humans with God. These types of ego defenses are then conveyed through ego defense mechanisms in literary works. The ego defense mechanism is conveyed through a series of Maryam novel stories based on nine types of ego defense, namely repression, sublimation, projection, displacement, rationalization, reaction formation, regression, aggression and apathy. Fantasy and Stereotypes. Meanwhile, it turns out that the ego defense contained in Maryam's novel gets twenty-three data.
