CONFLICTING LANGUAGE STYLES IN HUJAN BULAN JUNI BY SAPARDI DJOKO DAMONO

Abstract

This research is motivated by the conflicting language style contained in the June Rain novel by
Sapardi Djoko Damono. This research is focused on the conflicting language style in the Rainy
June novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The purpose of this research is to describe the conflicting
language style in the June Rain novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono. This type of research is
qualitative research. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method. The data in
this study are in the form of words, sentences and dialogue which are forms of conflicting
language style in the Rainy June novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The data source in this study
is the June Rain novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono. The results of this study indicate that the
contradictory language style contained in the Rainy June novel by Sapardi Djoko Damono is,
first, the irony style, this style of language is marked by "he feels eating Simalakama fruit" which
has the meaning of being in a difficult choice. Second, cynicism style, this style of language is
marked by "high schools but your brain is still slipping" which has the meaning of ridicule
expressions and third, sarcasm, this style of language is marked by the presence of "unclean
territory" which means to contain harsh words. The style of language most found is the language
style of cynicism, because the author uses many cynical expressions.
